Located in the Victorian Historic District, the existing building was constructed around 1905 as a private residence. It now hosts about 60% of an extensive and continuously growing collection of museum quality African art. The need arose to create an addition that would respectfully connect to the existing building, in order to have the complete collection of exquisitely crafted masks, garments, pottery and sculptures at one site.
